Without a community organization to arrange it for us, I reached out to the other candidates to suggest the event. I do hope they agree to attend, as I believe that communication with voters/constituents is imperative, and this event will give people the opportunity to come out and hear/speak with all of us.
The format for the evening will be as follows:
- Candidates will draw numbers to determine speaking order.
- Beginning at 7:15 p.m., each candidate will have five minutes to speak. During this time, they may choose to tell people who they are, why people should vote for them, their goals, their plans, etc.
- If any candidate mentions another candidate's name, they will lose what is remaining of their five minutes.
- After every candidate has spoken, each candidate will return to a table with their campaign literature at the perimeter of the room to speak with attendees.
John Storm has been kind enough to volunteer to emcee/moderate our event. He has a great deal of experience and has been a very effective moderator of other political and non-political debates and forums.
John will give each speaker a 30-second warning when their five minutes is about to end, and he will interrupt and stop any candidate who mentions another candidate's name.

All of the candidates have been contacted via the e-mail address they provided to the City of St. Catharines when they filed their nomination papers.
As yet, none of the other candidates have confirmed their attendance. I do know that two are making arrangements with their workplaces.
I will update you as to attendance as the other candidates update me. I've asked them to RSVP by end of day on Wednesday, September 24, 2014.
